
Michael Yan
Founder and President
Michael is a third-year undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley studying Molecular and Cell Biology with a minor in Public Policy. Passionate about improving domestic healthcare access, he launched Health Insurance for the Unhoused with a vision to address disparities in unmet needs for people experiencing homelessness. Michael’s commitment towards health equity led him to pursue translational-clinical research at both Stanford Medicine and Berkeley Public Health, resulting in several publications, patents, and a presentation at the 18th World Congress of Neurosurgery. Outside of his work as a social entrepreneur and community advocate, Michael enjoys playing pickleball and traveling.

Avinna Jain
Assistant President
Avinna is an fourth year undergraduate student majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology. She is interested in healthcare and making healthcare more accessible for people with a variety of different needs and therefore hopes to pursue a PharmD after graduating. To reach this goal, she is also involved in PILLS, the on campus pre-pharmacy organization. Avinna is also involved in bioengineering research on campus. Outside of her professional and academic interests, Avinna enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles and reading.

Vitto Resnick
VP External Affairs
Vitto is a fourth-year majoring in ChemBio, Psych, MCB, and NST. With interests in neurodegenerative diseases and translational therapeutic techniques, Currently, he is at UCSF-Gladstone doing research on multi-omic approaches (snATAC- and snRNA-seq) to epigenetic profiling to uncovered functional genetics of Parkison’s and Alzheimers through noncoding variants. He was president of Bioprinting @ Berkeley (B@B) and Academia chair of Translational Medicine & Stem Cell Association (TMSCA). Vitto also enjoys tennis, poetry, and powerlifting.

Hyobin Kim
VP Consulting
Hyobin is an international student from South Korea, currently a junior majoring in MCB and Psychology. Working at two dental offices, both as a dental assistant and at the front desk, has sparked a deep interest in healthcare accessibility and insurance coverage. This exposure has inspired Hyobin to become involved with “Health Insurance for the Unhoused,” where they actively advocate for universal healthcare. Through volunteering at senior centers and UCSF hospital, she has identified outreach opportunities to extend healthcare support to more vulnerable populations. She enjoys cooking and listening to music.

Denise Barrios Lopez
VP Communications
Denise is a second year undergrad majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology. She is interested in Neurobiology and making health insurance more inclusive and accessible as well as pursuing an MD/PhD after graduation. Denise is interested in doing research on the brain and how biology affects mental health. She enjoys running, reading, and spending time with loved ones.

Stefany Gonzalez
VP Technology
Stefany is a recent graduate majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology. She is deeply committed to promoting health equity and ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to essential care. This work aligns with her aspiration to become a doctor, where she can advocate for the health needs of underserved communities and contribute to a more just and compassionate healthcare system. She currently works as a research technician at UC Berkeley. In her free time she likes to exercise and play with her new golden retriever puppy!

Brian Wen
VP Education
Brian recently graduated with a degree in Chemical Biology. After learning about the coverage gaps and systemic challenges within the U.S. healthcare system, he was motivated to provide essential education and resources to community members facing barriers to care. As an aspiring physician, he views education as a powerful tool to improve lives and expand access to quality healthcare. His research interests include epigenetics and cardiovascular diseases. In his free time, Brian enjoys sports such as tennis, basketball, and chess.

Graciela Pinedo
VP Events
Graciela is an undergraduate student majoring in Microbial Biology. She is interested in health equity and affordability in healthcare along with the study of microorganisms, hoping to pursue an MD after graduating. Graciela’s experience with Think Neuro has allowed her to expand her interests through research on the opioid epidemic in affected communities and gaining proficiency in outreach. Outside of academics, Graciela enjoys soccer, exercising, and painting.

Michela Maher
VP Marketing
Michela is a third-year majoring in Neurobiology and
Public Health and exploring the intersections between
them. She is interested in Neuroscience, Cardiology,
and health equity; pursuing an MD after graduating
while continuing to address disparities amongst
underserved communities and improve healthcare
outcomes. Michela’s experience as a Medical Assistant
has allowed her to expand these interests, integrating
academic knowledge with real-world experiences to
foster a holistic understanding of healthcare challenges.
As a TA for Public Health 116, she is further able to
explore these complex issues. Outside of academics,
Michela enjoys cheerleading, spending time with friends
and family, and traveling.

Brian Lee
VP Finance
Brian is a second year undergraduate intending on
majoring in Integrative Biology. After graduation, he
plans on applying to medical school. After exploring the
issue of homelessness within the San Francisco Bay
Area, he was inspired to take action. He is interested in
researching health equity and neuroscience. Outside of
class, he enjoys listening to music and playing tennis.

VP Outreach
An is a second year student intending on double
majoring in Integrative Biology and Economics. After
observing the prevalent issues of homelessness within
the San Francisco Bay Area as a local, she was
inspired to take action. She is interested in researching
injustices within the healthcare system and plan to
apply to medical school after graduating. Outside of
class, she enjoys making matcha and cycling.
